BITING
Sometimes toddlers and some older infants resort to biting for many reasons. A child may feel overwhelmed by anxiety may bite, as well as an infant cutting teeth. It is very difficult and frustrating for parents, the children, and the caregivers. Our policy is simply to attempt to stop the biting by observing and documenting the episodes. Through observation a pattern can often times be determined.
- If biting occurs first time, Leaping Learners must address issue with parent/guardian
- If biting occurs a second time, Leaping Learners must remove the child from the center for 1 week.
- If biting occurs a third time, Leaping Learners must remove the child from the center for an additional 1 week.
- If biting occurs a fourth time, Leaping Learners must remove the child from the center indefinitely. Child care service will be terminated.
*Please Note: Long term, non determined biting will not be tolerated.
BEHAVIOR GUIDANCE
Our goal of Discipline is to maintain a safe and fair environment that encourages growth and development of the child's self -esteem.
Leaping Learners expect children to think about what they have done at a stage of development when they are capable of doing so. In the event a child disrupts classroom activities and interferes with the teacher's ability to teach and fellow children (students) ability to learn, the child will be lovingly corrected and encouraged to take responsibility for his/her behavior through these steps : re-direction, positive guidance, time away.
Teachers model the desired behavior by treating each child with gentle kindness and respect.
The instructors/staff encourages the children to display kind-like behavior and attitudes. Occasionally a child may need to take time away from an activity until he/she regains composer. Children must develop control and self discipline.
If a child's behavior harms himself, other children, property or staff, parents may be asked to participate in a conference at the center to discuss possible options to change behavior. Please remember that termination of service may be an option if correction and a solution prove not to be possible. Disruptive behavior may include, but not limited to: biting, aggression, hitting, kicking, bad language, throwing toys, destroying property, fighting, and disrespect of authority.
